Red Hat 9 Commands

 

(to be used in the terminal or by pressing alt-f2)

All of these commands have the prefix "redhat-config" unless otherwise noted. Remember there are tons of other commands that can be used in the terminal that apply to any distributions, but I am listing the Red Hat 9 ones here that are specific to that distribution. I have added screenshots where I could to illustrate the function, just click on the title to see a link with a picture.

securitylevel - you can adjust your firewall level here

network - used to change network settings

soundcard - used to configure your soundcard and play a test sound

mouse - used to select what type of mouse you are using

xfree86 - used to configure your display properties

printer and printer-gui - add or remove or modify and existing printer on your system
date - self explanatory
httpd - graphical tool for configuring the Apache Web Server
keyboard - self explanatory
kickstart - tool for the installation process
language - self explanatory
nfs - tool to configure nfs for file sharing
packages - tool to configure installed packages
proc - tool to configure processes
rootpassword - change or set the root password
services - configure which services are running
users - configure the users who have access the different elements of the red hat install
logos - choose a different style for your install
logviewer - see whats happening on the system in greater detail, very useful for troubleshooting
menus - view your menu for files for Gnome and Kde
release - indicates the version you are using
rpm-config - manage the red hat package manager
switch(-printer/-printer-gnome/mail/mail-gnome) - change settings for printing and mail
