UFC 81 – Breaking Point – Results

ufc 81For this event, I am not going to do a rundown of all my picks. I did OK with them, but by no means did I do well just to get that out of the way.

Mir vs Lesnar. This fight was highly anticipated and really could only go 1 of 2 ways. Either Mir would submit Lesnar thereby showing Lesnar’s inexperience in the art of submission. The other way this could have went was with Lesnar performing ground and pound and forcing a TKO. This time it was the first prediction. Let’s keep in mind that this was Lesnar’s first UFC appearance and he admitted that he had practiced getting out of leglocks about a 1,000 times but somehow got caught in Mir’s. I suspect that Lesnar will be around for a while and will come back more comfortable in the octagon.

Tim Sylvia vs Antonio Nogeuira was the surprise fight of the night for me in terms of the outcome. Nogeuira looked very good and typical of previous performances, he just takes a lot of punishment and then waits for his opponent to tire and then takes advantage.  Nogeuira is now the only  fighter to hold two titles at once time in the UFC – the Pride heavyweight championship along with the UFC heavyweight championship.

The last few UFC PPV events have been fairly good so hopefully this trend continues.
