Ultimate Spiderman – Game of the Month for July

Spiderman

We have chosen Ultimate Spiderman as the game of the month for July. This received very good reviews and I did play this a while ago although didn’t get very far. I really liked the uniqueness of the prevalence of the webswinging and the way the controls were mapped out, making it easy. There is also plenty of opportunities for fighting as there are many opponents on top of buildings that are set to battle. For those who are participating, feel free to register so you can add comments to this post. Good luck! I have provided the guideline for the sections we will be doing each week here!

So far week one was very easy to get past even though it was comprised of 6 Chapters. With only 19 Chapters in total, this may end up being a relatively short game unless some of the Chapters contain a great deal of missions. I’m now working on week two. Getting past the second Venom battle was kind of a pain, but I managed to get by. I’m about half way through the week two sections now. This game feels like it is moving along a lot faster than Psychonauts. The web swinging was done very well in the game.

After getting through a couple more weeks of this game, two main points come to mind – one positive, one negative. The postive point is the storyline and integration of the comic book like cinematics in between levels. The negative point are the occurrences of glitchy gameplay which grow increasingly annoying. For example, the arrow you are supposed to follow during the chase scenes misrepresents itself at times and other parts of the game such as bad camera work and ‘unavailable areas’ adversely affect gameplay. This is a relatively short game compared to Psychonauts but it does appear to have a plethora of bosses which range in difficulty.
